Recognising the Need for a Career Change
It can be a bit of a process to find the right job for you. The first job you go into may or may not be your dream job. A fulfilling career is a dream for many and you have to dedicate a lot of time and effort to reach it. You are not alone if you feel as if your job isn’t getting you anywhere and that it has simply become a chore. The important question is what you can do about it.
You may have chosen the job you’re in for many reasons in the past. But what if you don’t see the value of those reasons now? Many people report feeling disconnected from their job where you have mentally distanced yourself from it. Even going to your place of employment is not an enjoyable experience anymore and there is nothing that excites you about your job. You have to examine yourself by taking a step back and thinking about why you feel this way. You may have been passionate about this job at a point in your life but why can’t you find the same passion? Knowing when to change jobs is also an advantage because you don’t need to be wasting your years in a place that makes you happy. But this doesn’t mean you have to drop your job right away and forget about your place of work. You can look for a job while your current employment can support your financial needs. Finding a new job that makes you happy can take some time so you need to have a plan for your financial security while you search.
Going to work should not be an ordeal for you. Do you feel dread when you think about going to work each day? Everyone experiences those days when you feel like you just want to snuggle with a blanket in your comfortable bed. But if this is a regular occurrence, this can be a red flag that your current job is not fulfilling your expectations. Living only for the weekend is not a healthy way of life. Your job shouldn’t be having a negative impact on your personal life. If the work you do, constantly brings you down and depleting your energy, this can trickle down into your personal life and relationships as well.
Your life needs a bit of excitement and hope to get you through it. But what if your job just requires you to go through the same motions every day? You can feel as if your talents are not appreciated or not used to their full extent. If you feel as if you’re not making an impact however small by working, it is very easy to feel discouraged and pessimistic about your job role. You can scrutinise your job and see if there is anything that you love doing. Do you love communicating with new people or getting to the nitty-gritty of a new project? This is something you can use when you’re looking for a new career field to go into.
